Biography

Sophia Pauline Nickum Thomas was born to John and Anna Eliza Pleasant Brooke Nickum in Berlin Center, Ohio on October 30, 1846. She spent most of her early life in Salem, Ohio and married Calvin Henry Thomas there on April 8, 1874. She graduated from Salem High School which also included two years of college work in 1868. She was a member of Union Colony Pioneer Society, W.T. K. Club, State Federation of Women's Clubs, Graphic Club, and the Greeley Woman's Club. In addition, she served with the Women's Relief Corps. She took a cruise with her daughter Myra to the West Indies and Panama in 1927 and traveled to Alaska with her daughter Thurza in 1929. She died on February 27, 1930.
