Biography

Myra Laura Thomas was born in Greeley, Colorado to Calvin and Mrs. Thomas on April 22, 1882. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1900, the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1904 and the State Normal School of Colorado in 1905. inyra taught for several years prior to studying at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1916 and graduating in 1919. She did postgraduate work at the Art Institute of Chicago under George Bellows during 1919-1920. She studied at the Art Students League in New York City during 1920-1921 with Randall Davey and John Sloan. Myra Thomas taught at the Wyatt School in Ault, Colorado for many years. She was Supervisor of Art at the Ault Public Schools in 1930. She taught “Etching and Print Making” and “Art” courses at Colorado State College of Education during the 1930 Summer School. She was a member of the Pioneer Society, Greeley Panhellenic, and attended the First Congregational Church. She died on February 5, 1963. Sources: Chamblin, Thomas S., ed. Scope and Contents

Books along with other items were given to the library by Sarah Thomas, widow of Dan Thomas, c 1971, when the Thomas home near Ault was sold. William Southard of Greeley was the attorney. Correspondence about the gift is in the Archives office file.The file also contains a list of the books, most of which have not been cataloged. A list of the books is available upon request. This collection also contains over 700 etchings and watercolors by Myra Laura Thomas.
