Biography

Daniel Boone Lee Thomas was born to Calvin Henry and Sophia Paulina Nickum Thomas on August 22, 1886 in Greeley, Colorado. He attended Thomas School for Boys, Port Deposit, Maryland; and Worcester Tech, Worcester, Maryland. Daniel was a electrical engineer who served with the Signal Corps during World War I. He married Sarah Ford of Kanab, Utah at Prescott, Arizona on September 6, 1927. He operated the Grand Canon Phantom Ranch in Arizona for a while. Dan thomas and his wife managed the Rainbow Lodge near Rainbow Natural Bridge inthe summer of 1931. then returned to the family ranch, specializing in raising Hereford cattle. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, the Eaton American Legion and an associate member of the Denver Westerners. He died on November 8, 1955. Sources: Chamblin, Thomas S., ed. Scope and Contents

Books along with other items were given to the library by Sarah Thomas, widow of Dan Thomas, c 1971, when the Thomas home near Ault was sold. William Southard of Greeley was the attorney. Correspondence about the gift is in the Archives office file.The file also contains a list of the books, most of which have not been cataloged. A list of the books is available upon request. This collection also contains over 700 etchings and watercolors by Myra Laura Thomas.
