 Sub-Series
Identifier: Sub-Series 4

Scope and Contents

In April 1981, a Colorado Department of Education team made an accreditation visit to the University of Northern Colorado. the prupose of the visit was a study of the University's Teacher Education programs and preparation of students for certification. Archives has Volume I only of the Self-Study which preceded this visit. This report provides then-current information on the University, the faculty, students, and educational resources. Most extensively, it reports the curriculum. Also included in the materials in Archives is an analysis of inter-state certification requirements as of September 1980, written by Professor Arthur Partridge. A list of members of the team and visit schedule is in the file. The report of the visiting team indicated the the University was "out of compliance with state teacher-training standards in 53 instances" (quoted from news article). Considerable unfavorable publicity resulted from the report. Archives does not have a copy of the report, nor of the later visit after which the accreditation was approved.
