Biography

American modernist painter born in Rochelle Park, NY in 1902. Studied at Wellesley College and Teacher's College at Columbia University. In Paris studied with Amédée Ozenfant who co-founded Purism with the artist Le Corbusier. Married twice. First to the writer Benedict Thielen and later to Morgan Worthy. Berresford and her husband Benedict became subjects for Thomas Hart Benton's painting Flight of the Thielens, which depicts their struggle to survive the Great New England Hurricane of 1938.
