Biography

Walter Olin Green was born on April 3, 1905 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He graduated from Hartford High School in Hartford, Connecticut and the Pratt School of Art in New York City. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 and a Master of Arts degree in 1956, both from the University of Northern Colorado. Walter Green married Olive M. Caswell in Willimantic, Connecticut on October 7, 1942. During World War II he served with the Air Force engineers. After the war, he taught for the Denver Public Schools and the Emily Griffith School in Denver, Colorado. From 1965 to 1970, he taught fine arts at the University of Northern Colorado. Following his retirement, Green taught at the Tequesta Art School in Florida from 1973 to 1978. He helped organize the Artists Equity and was its first president; an honorary member of the Colorado Watercolor Society, and the Fifteen Colorado Artists. He also served as the art chairman of the KRMA television series, "Artists Today and Yesterday." Walter Green received many awards, including Duplers Award from the Cheyenne Art Guild; Creative Achievement Award from the University of Northern Colorado in 1984; co-recipient of the University of Northern Colorado's President's Award; co-recipient of an award from the Colorado Watercolor Society. Walter Olin Green passed away on December 14, 1994 at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He was cremated and interned at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic, Connecticut.
