Biography

Khunying Vinita Diteeyont is a popular, prolific and award winning Thai novelist. She has been decorated by the Royal Thai government on three occasions and "honored with the National Heritage Preservation and National Thai Cultural Awards." In addition, she has "been praised as a scholar, critic, translator, and teacher." Many of her over 100 novels have been adapted for Thai television. She writes for adults as well as young adults, crossing "genres and treatments, from popular mainstream novels to science fiction and historical fiction, as exemplified by her best-known book The Bygone Bangkok." She received a Bachelor's Degree from the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. She received two degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1976 and an honorary doctorate (Ed.D.) in 2005. Her dissertation at the University of Northern Colorado is entitled: Consistency Between Teaching Methods and Teaching Purposes of Instructors at Silpakorn University, Thailand. As an Associate Professor at Silpakorn University she taught Thai literature and creative writing at Silpakorn University until she retired in 1995. As of 2007, she was teaching at Mahidol University. Khunying Vinita Diteeyont participated in the Rosenberry Writers' Conference at the University of Northern Colorado in 2007.
