Biography

Ruth Amalia (Kurtz) Rice was born on September 28, 1928 to William and Effie (Frank) Kurtz in Windsor, Colorado. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1946 and received a bachelor's degree in General Education from Colorado State College of Education (now the University of Northern Colorado) in 1950. She married J. Lee Rice on December 23, 1954. She taught in Fort Lupton for twenty years and then moved to Pennsylvania and Virginia. Following the death of her husband, she returned to Greeley where she lived from 1983 until her death. Ruth Rice wrote a variety of educational books and pamphlets for high school teachers as well as articles for educational and other publications. She volunteered for the Weld County Food Bank, the Greeley Museums, where she assisted with a German-Russian exhibit, and promoted "animal causes and conservation efforts."
