Biography

Effie Alice McNitt, an only child, was born to Alpheus Philetus and Orpha Baldwin McNitt on October 25, 1874. Her parents moved from Wisconsin to Evans, Colorado in 1870. Her mother was a teacher and her father served as Weld County's first surveyor. Effie Alice McNitt graduated from the Colorado State Normal School in 1893. She taught at Pleasant Hill and Central School in Longmont, Colorado and married Elmer L. Montgomery in 1902. Effie Alice McNitt Montgomery is the author of and is the Eleanor Ann in the "Prairie Christmas and Other Stories" which is published separately as well in Letters from a Frontier Bride by her mother Orpha Baldwin McNitt.

Abstract

This collection consists of twenty-seven photographs of the Colorado State Normal School Class of 1893, two publications, and miscellaneous items. Both the photographs and miscellaneous items are kept in the original red velvet box (7 3/4"x5 1/4"x2 1/4"). The red velvet box has been wrapped in archival tissue paper and placed in an archival box (5 1/2"x12"x5")
