Biography

Clyde M. Brundy was born in Greeley, Colorado in 1907 and raised on a cattle ranch in northeastern Weld County. At the age of ten he decided to become a writer and sold his first story when he was 17 years old. He attended school in Cornish, Colorado as well as Fullerton, California. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1929 and attended Colorado State Teachers College and the University of California at Berkeley but did not graduate from either institution. Brundy could not make a living as a freelance writer, so he turned to accounting, a career that lasted for 35 years. During those years he continued to write. Although Brundy finished the manuscript for High Empire in 1965, he was unable to find a publisher willing to publish the book. In the early 1970s Brundy "read that Avon Publishing Company was looking for a western epic." After laying in a dresser drawer for several years, Brundy sent the manuscript to Avon Publishing Company. It was accepted and published in 1974. Clyde M. Brundy passed away on May 16, 1999 at the age of 91. Publications by Clyde M. Brundy include: Brundy, Clyde M. High Empire. New York: Avon Books, 1974. Brundy, Clyde M. Grasslands.
