Biography
Katherine Anne Ommaney was born to Arthur Ross and Maria Wright Ommanney in Denver, Colorado in 1893. She received a Pd.B. in 1913 and a Pd.M. (A.B.) in 1914, both from the University of Northern Colorado. She received a Master's Degree from Stanford University and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (England) and the American Academy of Dramatic Art. She was a member of the English Department at the University of Northern Colorado from 1920-1921, replacing Frances Tobey who was on sabbatical leave. She taught dramatics at North High School in Denver, Colorado, 1922-1943. While at North High School she established the Black Masque Drama Society in 1922. The Katherine Ommanney Vincent/Black Masque Scholarship was established in her name. She married Henry Vincent on November 29, 1945. She is the author of The Stage and the School (1st ed. 1932) and wrote many articles about the theater. Ommaney taught, lectured, directed and wrote about the theater while she resided in Colorado and Hawaii. She belonged to several organizations and received several awards.
