Biography

Mary Anne Bokan Sagraves was born on December 1, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph and Louiose Jaroki Bokan. In the 1950's, Mary Anne studied at the Colorado State College, where she joined the choir group the Choral-Aires. In 1958, she travelled with the Choral-Aires to Japan and Korea on an East Asian tour sponsored by the Department of Defense. After graduating from CSC, Mary Anne Bokan studied for her masters in elementary education at Central Connecticut State University. During her time in school, she was a member of numerous scolastic soroities. After graduating from Central Connecticut, Mary Anne taught elementary education for over 30 years. Before she retired, Mary Anne worked with numerous educational organizations, the YMCA, the YWCA, and taught Sunday school at her Methodist church. Finally, in 1993 Mary Anne retired with her husband, Todd Sagraves. The two traveled frequently before finally settling down in Holly Springs, North Carolina. Mary Anne Bokan Sagraves passed away on January 4th, 2018.
