Biography

Walter H. Stewart, Professor Emeritus of Journalism and Mass Communications - B.A., M.A., Ph.D. at the University of Northern Colorado, worked in the journalism field for ten years before becoming a teacher. He attended the University of Southern Illinois, where he met his wife Elma. He taught high school English, journalism, and history in Missouri. He then taught at Evansville College (Indiana), the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of Idaho, and journalism at the University of Northern Colorado from 1968 to 1984. Following retirement, he continued his interest in newspapers. Stewart and his wife, Elma, established The Journalism Center in the basement of their home "to record the history of Colorado newspapers and provide recognition for Colorado newspaper people."
