Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Created in 1954, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education is an organization of colleges and universities, state departments of education, school boards, and teacher and professional groups. Its purpose is to evaluate and accredit institutions involved in the preparation of elementary and secondary school teachers and administrative personnel. It publishes a list of accreditation standards and an annual list of institutions to which it has granted accreditation. The University, under that name and as Colorado State College, has had six visits from NCATE between 1961 and 1985. For each visit there exists a self study by the institution presented to the visiting team, and an accreditation report made by the team. Archives did not have a complete collection of these materials at the time that the original finding aid was created on March 26, 1987 by ss/emm. ss are most likely the initials for Sue Schulze, Archivist, 1985-1989. Additional materials were added at a later date.
