Camp Dunraven
Scope and Contents
Although some people associate Camp Dunraven with the Universitiy of Northern Colorado, it was not owned by the University. The association probably had to do with the Camp Fire leadership classes held at the University for many years. Camp Duraven was originally part of the Earl of Dunraven's Dunraven Cottage and Estes Park Hotel. The cottage and hotel were part of the holdings that Burton Sanborn and F. O. Stanley purchased in 1908. Burton's son Carl sold the cottage and grounds to the Camp Fire Girls of Northern Colorado in 1923. Camp Dunraven was also known "the summer home of the Colorado State Teachers College." Sources: Clinger, Mic, Janes H. Pickering, and Carey Stevanus. "Dunraven Cottage and Estes Park Hotel, circa 1910," pp. 32-33 in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park Then & Now (Englewood, CO: Westcliffe Publishers, 2006); Estes Park Trail (Aug. 4, 1922).
