Candelaria Hall, 1973-
Scope and Contents
Classroom Building 11 was built in 1972. The building was dedicated on December 7, 1974 in honor of Dr. Martin Candelaria, Emeritus Professor of Spanish, who served in several positions at the University of Northern Colorado from 1948 to 1963, including Assistant Professor of Spanish, Associate Professor of Spanish, and Professor of Spanish. A mural, "The Life and Times of Martin Candelaria" by Leo Tanguma, is located on the north stairwell of Candelaria Hall. The mural was dedicated on August 26, 2000. Candelaria Hall originally housed the College of Arts and Sciences. Currently it houses some of the schools, departments and programs of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, including Africana Studies, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, Hispanic Studies, Modern Languages, School of Communication, Sociology, and Women's Studies.
