Classrooms, Early
Scope and Contents
This folder contains clippings pertaining to classrooms used in downtown Greeley prior to the construction of Cranford Hall, the first building established on the grounds of the Colorado State Normal School. Classes were held on the second story of the Weld Co. Radiator Works building. Since there was inadequate space for desks and chairs students sat "on the floor during lectures." The first commencement ceremonies were held in the Hunter Opera House on June 4, 1891 at 9:30a.m. The Hunter Opera House was built by S. D. Hunter in 1886 at the southeast corner of 8the Avenue and 8th Street and the opera house was located on the second floor. The building has since been razed.
