Gymnasium (SATC), 1918-1927
Scope and Contents
The SATC (Student Army Training Corps) Gymnasium, built during WWI, served the school's athletics programs from 1918-26. The SATC gym was also known as the "Green Barn" and the "Cow Barn". It was razed in 1927, shortly after Gunter Hall of Health was completed. An article in the November 3, 1929 issue of the Mirror referred to the building as the "green 'sheep domicile'." Prior to 1918, athletic training classes were held in the basement of the Normal School Building. That structure had two other names during its lifetime, the Administration Building (1906-31) and Cranford Hall (1931-72). Sources: "Campus Landmarks," Mirror, Nov. 3, 1929, p. 6.
