President's Residence, 1928-1999
Scope and Contents
First President's Residence -- President Zachariah Xenophone Snyder originally furnished his own home at 926 9th Street. Prior to being razed in 1930, the old president's home served as a "Unity Church, Sattley Mortuary, and other businesses." Second President's Residence --The Board of Trustees approved funds in 1903 for a new president's home to be built at 1700 10th Avenue. Construction cost of the home was "$13,200 'exclusive of plumbing and heating'." The first president's home was completed in 1904 and was occupied by the various presidents until 1924. The presiden'ts second home became the Music Conservatory in 1924 and was used as such until it was replaced by Frasier Hall in 1954. The Music Conservatory was located where the Skinner Music Library now stands. The "Music Conservatory" brass plate attached to one of the doors at the Music Conservatory is located at the School of Music. Third President's Residence --The third president's home was completed in 1928 at 1862 10th Avenue at a cost of $32,95 for George Willard Frasier and his family. It was used as the president's residence until 1998 at which time it was converted into a Visitors Center. Source: Johnson, Hazel E.
