Trailer Camps
Scope and Contents
Summer school students set up trailers off campus at Island Grove Park which was owned by the City of Greeley. The camp at Island Grove Park was variously known as "Trailertown" or "College Trailertown" or "City of Trailertown." The camp had both a mayor and city clerk in 1937. Sources: "D. Plumb, Mayor of Trailertown," Mirror, June 25, 1937, p. 1; "Trailertown Gets Another Citizen," Mirror, July 23, 1937, p. 3. Following World War II a "transient trailer village" was established at Jackson Field for "students and their families."
