Scope and Contents

One Whitman 1074 paper scrapbook. 11 1/2"x13 1/2". This scrapbook is filled primarily with articles Nora Collins wrote as well as SRA Occupational Briefs and Chronical Occupation Briefs. Of particular interest to researchers is a letter from Eleanor Roosevelt dated February 5, 1954 thanking Collins for a poem she had written as a tribute to Franklin D. Roosevelt.  Mrs. Roosevelt planned to place a copy of the poem in the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library. Nora Roop Collins graduated from Colorado State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Colorado) with a two year diploma in 1919 and a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1922.  She received a Master's degree from the University of Southern California. Nora Roop Collins taught journalism at Montebello High School.  She also taught for the San Clemente High School Adult Education Program. Collins also worked for the Montebello Messenger newspaper first as the women's editor and later as the editor. Nora Collins wrote about gardening, natural science, history and education.  She was a member of the National League of Pen Women, Whittier Writers Club and a founding member of Los Escribientes.  Her articles appeared in many publications, including Sunset, Reader's Digest, and Sunshine Magazine. see also -- RG4 S9 -- Nora Charlotte Roop Collins Diplomas
