Collection Scope and Contents
This collection contains material relating to the establishment and activities of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) between 1965 and 2000. Including this collection are minutes from the CCHE's meetings, legislation and statues related to the CCHE, plans and reports published by the CCHE, statistics and information on programs and enrollment in Colorado higher education, and financial documents and recommendations.

Historical Note
The Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) was established in 1965 by an Act of the Colorado General Assembly. (1965 Session Laws p. 1045, and CRS 23-1.)
The original statue called for 9 members appointed by the Governor for a four-year term and confirmed by the Senate. Officers, employees or board members of various instituions of higher education are ineligible for commission membership.
There is an advisory committee officially established by the Statue which includes four legislators, and faculty representatives of the instituions. The UNC faculty annually elects a member to this group.
Prior to the 1985 legislative session a committee worked on changes in the higher education hierarchy and creating a report with their recommendations. Resulting from that study, and much legislative activity, a major change in CCHE legislation was passed as House Bill 1187 in the 1985 session, considerably changing the authority of the Commission.
