Edith Tint correspondence
Scope and Contents
After reading James A. Michener's novel The Fires of Spring, Mrs. Gilbert (Edith) Tint recommended the book to her Geometry teacher at Hunter College. After reading the book the teacher noticed the use of the Italian surname Allegri in the novel and was curious to know if Michener got the name from a family owned bakery on Bleecker Street. Edith Tint wrote James A. Michener with this question. Michener respondend and confirmed in his letter that he did indeed get the idea from the sign hanging above the bakery.
