Collection Scope and Contents
This collection documents the University of Northern Colorado's (UNC) financial history dating back to the 1920s, when UNC was the Colorado State Teachers College. Included are budget requests to the state legislature and annual financial reports and audits. There are also a number of other financial reports concerning the Associated Students group, properties, and project reports. A number of general ledgers, some hand-written, can be found in this collection. It also contains information about the budget process, budget planning documents, and other materials related to financial matters of the University.
The archived website contains general information about the Office of Budget and Financial Planning, as well as electronic copies of financial reports dating to around 2007.

Historical Information Note
The budgeting process has undergone several changes over the university's history, becoming more complex as the institution grew. As a public institution, the university has always received funding from the state of Colorado. From at least the 1930s, the institution has created operational or working budgets which are approved by the Board of Trustees and then submitted to the Colorado State Assembly.
As of 2022, the UNC Office of Budget and Financial Planning was responsible for preparing the annual university budget and overseeing financial planning. The name of the unit overseeing the budget has changed several times throughout UNC's history.

Series 5. General Accounting Ledgers and Journals, 1930 - 1970. 8.6 linear feet.

Acquisition Information
Financial Services transferred material in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2016, and 2018. One folder transferred from the UNC Office of the Registrar records (RG008-S005) in June 2021 (to box RG8 S1 F1-2 001). Weeded materials from the UNC Libraries' Government Publications transferred in August 2021.
Separated Materials
The following materials were separated from this collection during processing in fall 2021: Three boxes of Student Representative Council Student Fee Allocation Committee files (1973-1990) were transferred to the UNC Student Representative Council records, RG010-S021; one set of computer punch cards was separated but kept for tours and other display purposes.
