Collection Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials generated by Anthropology Professor Bruce J. Lutz during his time at UNC. It primarily consists of records of the UNC Office of Public and Contract Archaeology (OPCA), which was organized and operated by Dr. Lutz to provide cultural resource management services to private companies and federal agencies. The OPCA materials include archaeological site investigation reports, slides, photographs, field specimen notebooks, contracts, and financial records. Teaching materials, such as syllabi, class notes, and reserve articles, used by Dr. Lutz for general anthropology instruction are also found in this collection along with records related to the summer archaeology field school.

Organizational History
The University of Northern Colorado Office of Public and Contract Archaeology (OPCA) was established in the spring of 1976 with Anthropology Professor Bruce J. Lutz as director. The purpose of OPCA was to provide cultural resource management services to private companies and federal agencies. Services included the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of archaeological and historical resources potentially impacted by construction, land development, or other forms of land use. Additionally, OPCA offered students the opportunity to gain professional research and writing skills as well as archaeological field experience such as surveying and excavation. The Office of Public and Contract Archaeology closed in 1980.
