Collection Scope and Contents
This collection consists of materials relating to the history and activities of the UNC Research Corporation. It includes information on issues and concerns from a 1988 proposal to form a UNC Research and Education Corporation, a customer satisfaction survey and an intellectual property policy, both from 1992. The annnual reports contain information on the structure of the UNC Research Corporation, news about the staff, selected projects and proposals, awards, UNC grants and contracts, submissions and awards by college and department, as well as financial statements. "Search and Research," newsletter of the Research Corporation, contains information on the structure of the UNC Research Corporation, news about the staff, possible grant opportunities for faculty, both from the governent and private sources, and other information.

Historical Note
“The Corporation is a nonprofit organization incorporated on February 3, 1989. Operations began on April 1, 1989. The Board of Trustees created the UNC Research Corporation in April 1989 to provide services related to the development and administration of UNC’s externally funded research and education programs. The staff of the Corporation helped faculty get and manage grants and thereby improve the University’s research capacity. The UNC Research Corporation was dissolved as of June 30, 1999. It was succeeded by Sponsored Programs and Academic Research Center (SPARC), 1999-2009. The Sponsored Programs and Academic Research Center (SPARC) was replaced by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) in 2009.
