This collection consists of materials related to the UNC College of Arts and Sciences and the departments within the College. It includes faculty photographs, annual reports, brochures, correspondence, newsletters, and clippings. The collection also contains issues of Confluencia (vols. 1-10), records regarding the history of the Journalism Department, and information on the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW).

Organizational History

In 1968, the School of Arts and Sciences was created from the combination of the Division of Humanities, the Division of Social Sciences, and the Division of Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences formed in 1970 when Colorado State College became the University of Northern Colorado. As a result of the Charting the Future planning and reorganization process in 2003-04, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences was formed, replacing the College of Arts and Sciences.

Abstract

This collection consists of materials related to the UNC College of Arts and Sciences and the departments within the College. It includes faculty photographs, annual reports, brochures, correspondence, newsletters, publications, and clippings.

Acquisition Information

The materials on the history of the UNC Journalism Department were donated by Walter Stewart in 2006. The Rosemary Hathaway files were donated by her on April 2, 2007. The Ross Hall dedication photographs and clippings were donated by LaVonne Beel in 2009. Materials related to the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW) were transferred by Anna Williams of Women’s Studies in 2014. The photographs of Arts and Sciences faculty members were transferred by Hayley Hull of the Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Office in September of 2014.

The former identifier number for this collection was RG007-S009AS. It was changed in December 2017 during the RG collection management project for the purpose of consistent identifier numbers.
