Collection Scope and Contents
This collection includes materials from various units within the Division of Student Affairs and its previous entities. The materials relate to student services and the student experience including enrollment data, tuition, Peace Corps, Career Services, student Health Services, Campus Ministry, Academic Advising Center, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Types of materials include publications, flyers, brochures, clippings, and photocopied information about various student affairs units and services.

Historical Note
Throughout UNC’s history, the entity for “Student Affairs” has been affiliated with or known by several different names including: Dean of Students, Deans of Men and Women, Division of Student Services, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. Regardless of the unit's official name, these offices and divisions have overseen various departments and areas to assist students with both classroom and non-class activities such as academic advising and health centers. As such, this particular collection represents several units related to the concerns of students and student experience.
Jack Shaw was the first Dean of Students in 1958, and was in charge of student affairs. The General Catalog (aka Bulletin) first uses the name "Division of Student Affairs" in the 1981-1982 academic year. In 2000, the Division of Student Affairs and all offices reporting to it were disbursed to other academic entities, mostly Academic Affairs. In 2019, under restructuring by President Andy Feinstein, a new unit formally known as the Division of Student Affairs was created.

Acquisition Information
Stephanie Torrez, Assistant Vice President for Student Success, transferred the Office of Multicultural Affairs Master Plan in 2019. In 2021, newsletters and flyers were transferred from RG008-S005 and incorporated into the existing series, subseries, and files. Acquisition information for the rest of the collection is unknown.
Separated Materials
During processing in 2019: UNC Native American Student Services materials were transferred to the UNC Native American Student Services records (RG009-S032); one folder containing UNC Asian/Pacific American Student Services materials was transferred to the UNC Asian/Pacific American Student Services records (RG009-S030); UNC Bears New Hire Guide was transferred to University of Northern Colorado collection on personnel and human resources (RG008-S002); Greek Life materials were transferred to University of Northern Colorado, Fraternity and Sorority Life Office records (RG009-S024).
