Collection Scope and Contents
The César Chávez Cultural Center, originally the named the Hispanic Cultural Center, was founded in 1985 as a place to support Hispanic students at UNC. Additionally, the Center honored Chicano figures while advocating for the larger Latinx community. Collection includes clippings, César Chávez Day materials, and other event flyers. Additionally, the Center gathered binders of departmental standards, Cumbres bilingual education program materials, and other University of Northern Colorado services. Collection also includes Latinx-produced newsletters, including legislative reports, education initiatives, and the University of Northern Colorado’s student-published Hispanic Horizons.

Organizational History
On January 26, 1984, the final draft of the Hispanic Task Force created by the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees on January 10, 1983, was presented to the Board. The Board decided to implement the recommendation that UNC provide a Hispanic Cultural Center. Its mission was to increase Hispanic student recruitment and retention and to enhance cultural appreciation within UNC and the greater community. The Hispanic Cultural Center opened September 3, 1985, at 1410 20th Street. Directors of the Hispanic Cultural Center included: Dr. Frank J. Lucero, 1985-1991; Dr. Alicia Chavez, Mid-August, 1991-January 10, 1992; Joseph Michael "Mike" Salazar, 1992-1995; Vicki Leal-Larsen, July 1995-[1998?]; Silvana Carlos, [1998?-June 1999]; Scott VanLoo, 2000-; Dr. Priscilla Falcon; Erick Rennaker Trish Escobar; Charlene Hernandez, - [June 2000].

Accession 16.14 transferred from the César Chávez Cultural Center in 2016.

The former identifier number for this material was RG009-S009-F2. It was changed in January 2018 during the RG collection management project for the purpose of consistent identifier numbers and to create a distinct collection for the UNC César Chávez Cultural Center materials.
