Collection Scope and Contents
This collection consists of materials related to the UNC Laboratory School. It includes school newspapers, scrapbooks, administrative files, commencement programs, and photographs. The collection also contains publications from the National Association of Laboratory Schools as well as memorabilia and photos from numerous Alumni Reunions. Information on the Lab School becoming a Charter School and the closure of the Lab School at UNC is found in this collection.

Organizational History
The Laboratory School was started in 1891 and closed in 2000.
Various names have been associated with the Laboratory School over time: Model School (1891-1899); Training School (ca. 1899-1924); High School (1902-1916); State High School of Industrial Arts (1916-1922); College High School (ca.1922-1969) ; Laboratory School (1924-2000); Ernest Horn Elementary School (beginning in 1940); University High School (1970-2000).

Abstract
This collection consists of materials related to the UNC Laboratory School, including such items as school newspapers, scrapbooks, administrative files, and photographs.
Acquisition Information
On March 31, 1986, Sondra Hughes of the UNC Laboratory School transferred five boxes of materials including school newspapers and other publications, commencement programs, scrapbooks, and miscellaneous items. In 2011, Shirley Henney Dickhart, College High Reunion Committee Chairman, donated registration books and photographs from class reunions held in 1990, 1995, 2000, and 2005. Two volumes regarding charter application were transferred to this collection from UNC Office of the Provost records (RG007-S001) in November 2020; material is in box # RG014.032. Acquisition information for other materials in this collection is unknown.

RG014-S002 through RG014-S019 were merged into this collection during the Record Group Collection Management Project, February 2018.
