The University of Northern Colorado Native American Student Services (NASS) program began in 1995. The original mission of NASS was to recruit, retain, and support currently enrolled Native American students. By 2001, NASS revised its purpose to focus on improving the college experience for Native American students, collaborating with units across campus, advocating for Native American students, and enhancing recruitment and retention efforts. In 2019, services included academic advising, career services, leadership development, and service learning. NASS worked closely with Native American Student Organizations on campus, including the American Indian Student Organization (formerly known as First Nations Student Organization). They hosted several events including lectures and an annual buffalo hunt.
