This collection contains information on the UNC Native American Student Services unit. It largely includes photographs of events and documents several years of an annual buffalo hunt. It also includes information about the history of the unit and related student organizations. It contains scrapbooks, flyers and posters about events, and objects and artwork.

Historical Note

The University of Northern Colorado Native American Student Services (NASS) program began in 1995. The original mission of NASS was to recruit, retain, and support currently enrolled Native American students. By 2001, NASS revised its purpose to focus on improving the college experience for Native American students, collaborating with units across campus, advocating for Native American students, and enhancing recruitment and retention efforts. In 2019, services included academic advising, career services, leadership development, and service learning. NASS worked closely with Native American Student Organizations on campus, including the American Indian Student Organization (formerly known as First Nations Student Organization). They hosted several events including lectures and an annual buffalo hunt.

UNC NASS materials recieved prior to August 2019 were placed into the University of Northern Colorado Student Affairs collection (RG009). These materials were separated and transferred into the UNC NASS records, RG009-S032, a collection created during processing in August 2019.
