Biography

Albert Joseph Martin, a former student of UNC, then named Colorado State College of Education, was born in 1923 within rural French Canada. He enlisted in the military during WWII in 1942, leading to his arrival in Greeley where he attended the WWII Engineering and Operations School for the Air Corp (AAFWTTC), which at the time was located at Colorado State College of Education. During the war, Martin was sent to Alaska, where he took photographs to capture some of his experiences there, and returned to college after the war, where he continued to document his life experiences. Martin’s post war photographs captured elements of his college experience as he worked towards obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree, acted as president of the college’s International Club, and traveled with friends. These photographs capture the lives of 20th century students of UNC and have preserved scenes from the University’s history.-- Danielle Acosta
