Collection Scope and Contents
This collection consists of films and videotapes created at or used by the University of Northern Colorado. Content includes footage of men’s and women’s sporting events (1994-2001), education news reported by TCI Channel 8 in Greeley (1995-2001), student interviews (1997-2006), footage of the Lab School and campus from the 1940s, and University events. There is footage of the 1949 fire of Cranford Hall, commercials for television, Admissions and promotional videos, and alumni gatherings. The films are on various video formats including DVDs, VHS tapes, Beta tapes, U-Matic tapes, Digital Videocassette (DV) and mini-DV tapes, and 16mm and 8 mm film. Most titles that appear in this finding aid were taken directly from the physical media and were not reviewed for accuracy.

Abstract
This collection consists of films and videotapes created at or used by the University of Northern Colorado. The footage contains a broad range of subjects including raw footage used for marketing and commercials, athletics events, student interviews, and scenes of campus.
Collection Arrangement
This collection is organized into 7 series: Series 1. Reel-to-reel Films, 1939-1970. 1.65 linear feet Series 2. Beta Tapes, 2001-2004. 2.13 linear feet Series 3. U-matic Tapes, 1982-2001. 1.9 linear feet Subseries 3.1. TCI Cablevision Channel 8 videotapes, 1995 - 2001. Subseries 3.2. University of Northern Colorado produced tapes, 1982 - 1989. Series 4. VHS Tapes, 1987-2007. 5.73 linear feet Series 5. Digital Media, 1997-2006. 0.7 linear feet Series 6. Digital Videocassette (DV) Tapes, 2008-2010. 0.75 linear feet. Series 7. Acquisition Information
The majority of the material in this collection was transferred from University Relations. This includes the TCI Cablevision of Colorado, Channel 8 U-matic tapes, received in 2006, and student focus group interviews and other VHS tapes, received in 2017 (complete list in Archives collection files). The origin of the three 8 mm black and white films from the 1940s is uncertain; they were either transferred by Tom Barbour from UNC Sports Information in 1978, or Ester Lotz in 1986. One copy of "Ah! Well I Remember..." sent to the Music Library in 1998. Videos designated with an "OVC" or "VC" number arrived in Archives in 2000. The film "Bueno Project Conference Presentation: Interviews with Director and Participants Fall 1993" was donated by Mary Seager Adams in 2006. Skinner Music Library transferred "You Come First" in 2018. University Advancement transferred 80 mini-DV tapes in 2019. The reel-to-reel audio tape of George Houston was tranferred from the UNC Board of Trustees records (RG001) in October 2021.
Existence and Location of Copies
Several items in this collection were digitized from 2019-2020. Digitized items are designated with an identifier number in the item-level record. Copies available in DigitalUNC will be noted in the item record as well.
Variant Identifier Number
Material from RG003-S016, Films and Promotional Videos; RG003-S028, TCI Cablevision Channel 8 Beta Videos; and RG003-S030, Media (CD-ROMs, DVDs, etc) was transferred to this collection in February 2018.
