Biography

Gary B. Morgan was born in San Diego, California on November 5, 1943. He attended the University of Sand Diego for two years and then transferred to at New Mexico Highlands University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in English-Journalism in 1966. While at Highlands he served as assistant sports information director for a year and then as director for another year. Morgan served as a graduate teaching assistant and assistant sports information director at Colorado State University and received a Master's Degree in English in 1968. Morgan served as sports information director at the University of Northern Colorado from 1968-1977. He held leadership positions in the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. His poetry was published in Western Humanities Review, Seared Eye, Nova, Mosaic, Kauri, Encore, Jean's Journal, and other publications.

Abstract

This collection includes manuscripts for Sugar Tramp: Colorado's Great Western Railway, Three Foot Rails; A Quick History of the Colorado Central Railroad, Rails Around the Loop (The Story of the Georgetown Loop), and an unidentified manuscript (possibly all or part of Stairways to the Stars: Colorado's Argentine Central Railway). The collection also includes photographs, correspondence, maps, and oral interviews as well as materials relating to railway routes and system expansion
