Acquisition #14.10. Transferred from the Music Department via Stephen Luttman. Student assistants reboxed and refoldered this collection. Materials in the collection include sound recordings of the Chorals Aires from 1957-1960; photographs on a CD; meeting minutes; event brochures; newspaper clippings; contracts; plaques; graduation regalis; and correspondence. "The Choral-Aires were organized in 1954 from the best ensemble and solo singers of Colorado State College." Professor Claude Schmitz served as director of the 32 member choir of 16 men, 16 women, and an accompanist. The choir toured Korea and Japan. Source: 1959 Cache La Poudre, p. 111. In the 1950s, the Choral-Aires (right) traveled throughout Colorado as ambassadors for the college music program. Emeritus Professor Claude Matthias Schmitz held several positions at the University of Northern Colorado from 1954-1983, including Assistant Professor of Music, Associate Professor of Music, Chair of the Department of Voice from 1968-1979, and Professor of Music.
