SPURS National Honor Society, 1946-2004
Collection Scope and Contents
This collection consists of news clippings and other information on various honorary societies at the University of Northern Colorado. It includes extensive administrative files and membership records for Phi Delta Kappa (1926-1984); scrapbooks, newsletters and minutes for SPURS National Honor Society; photo albums and scrapbooks for Mortar Board; and scrapbooks for the Orchesis and Golden Key organizations. The framed 1920 charter for Kappa Delta Pi is also found in this collection.

Organizational History
Acquisition #07.08 was received on May 24, 2007. Corinne Gray read a letter received from the Spur chapter at the University of Colorado at the Associated Students Council meeting on November 2, 1945. A motion was passed to organize a "Spur national pep club for girls." A letter was written to the National Spurs requesting permission to join the organization. Miss Mary Beth Padfield agreed to be the faculty sponsor. The Associated Women Students (AWS) of Colorado State College of Education tapped thirty-five girls into the Spurs chapter on Monday, May 20, 1946. The SPURS are listed in the 1947-71, 1979-80, and the 1983 Cache La Poudre yearbooks.
