"In the middle of a crushing schedule some United Nations people, some World Population people and some experts on world food supplies met with me to enlist my support for a crisis program to alert the nations of the world to the probability of widespread starvation in the years immediately ahead. I stopped what I was doing to help, and we put together a striking group of signatories. I wish I had the time to do more work on this program, for I admire greatly the work Norman Borlaug, a man I have grown to like and respect, is already doing."
