"Cover proofs. The blue is for the special, autographed edition of 500 copies which sell at a premium. I have never understood how the publisher can dispose of these special items, but I'm told that on a popular book the edition could run to several thousand, and be sold. It amazes me. Also, the grueling task of signing 500 books amazes me. Once every four years is often enough. Very tedious."
