Subseries Scope and Contents
Charles Manning served as Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1981-1982. This subseries contains materials from his tenure as vice president and two folders from Alvin E. Barnhart's brief tenure as acting vice president. Manning's files largely document the Comprehensive Program Analysis (CPA), an initative to review campus programs and positions for elimination following the implementation of a Reduction in Force. UNC administration held hearings with each academic program and then all employees, providing a space for feedback on the recommendations. There is information about the analytic processs, and all hearings have transcripts and audio cassette tapes. This subseries also contains a small amount of memos and correspondence on faculty matters, programs, and budget.
