Subseries Scope and Contents

Allen Huang was Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2003-2007. This subseries contains information on the Commission on the University Experience, which reviewed the Liberal Arts Core at UNC. It includes final and progress reports, correspondence, and minutes from the group's work. Huang's chronological correspondence is largely letters of recommendation or form letters for tenure, promotion, and leaves, but also includes memos regarding academic program directors, approvals for degrees, programmatic changes, and international partnerships.

Biography

Dr. Allen Huang, a native of Taiwan, attended National Chengchi University and received his Ph.D. degree in special education from the University of Alabama. He joined the University of Northern Colorado faculty in 1978 and served as the Director of the Division of Special Education, Dean of the College of Education, Associate Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies, Dean of the Graduate School, and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Huang was the President of the Division of Developmental Disability of the International Council for Exceptional Children. He published textbook, chapters, and articles in the field of his expertise, was a frequent presenter, consultant, and technical assistant to state, national, federal and international agencies and has headed many federally-funded grants and contracts. After announcing his retirement from UNC, he was recruited for, and accepted, the position of president of University of the West, a private liberal arts institution near Los Angeles.
