Organizational History
The University of Northern Colorado’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) was formed as a result of a university-wide, comprehensive planning and reorganization process that began in 2003 under President Kay Norton named Charting the Future. Part of that process included the replacement of academic departments with schools. Many departments that had previously been organized under the College of Arts and Sciences were reorganized into the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Starting in the 2004-2005 academic year, HSS became home to a wide array of academic disciplines organized into six schools: Communication; English Language and Literature; History; Philosophy, and Political Science; Modern Languages and Cultural Studies; Social Sciences; and Sociology and Criminal Justice.
