"Bach and Sugar Beets, published in September, 1938, in [Music Educators Journal, September 1938, pp 29, 43] This is evidence of my very early concern with irrigation and agriculture in Colorado. The course I taught, or rather the segment of the course, synthesized many of the basic ideas I would return to thirty-five years later, and it is remarkable to recall that almost every idea I had formulated in 1938 remained viable at this much later date. I added only a few refinements in the intervening years, and without this early indoctrination into the subject I would certainly not have been able to build the necessary concepts later. It might well be said that the student who learned most from this unit of work was the teacher".
